This wine represents the fullfillment of Lloyd Messer's dream of producing world class Cabernet Sauvignon from the Calcareous Vineyard in Paso Robles. 

A bright and lively nose of raspberry is backed up by plum and caramel. The lively acidity of the upfront fruit again gives way to heavier, darker flavors of cocoa and earth of the palate develops. Still tight and youthful, this Cab will still develop and truly come into it’s own starting in 2013-2014.

Wine Story

Vineyard Notes
2008 was an extremely warm and dry year in Paso Robles, which led to very low yields from our Estate Cabernet. I’ve found in warm years, the grapes naturally produce thicker skins to lessen evaporation loss. This condition leads to extremely robust Cabernet.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit was hand picked and cluster sorted before de-stemming. The fruit was moved uncrushed into 2-ton open stainless fermenters. The berries were cold soaked under CO2 for 6 days to allow for color extractions. Upon activation of primary fermentation, the cap was punched down 2 times daily as well as a daily delastage to remove seeds and promote oxidative conditions. After 23 days, the juice was pressed off the skins and rough racked into barrels. The barrels were only racked one additional time before bottling.

This second release of the “Lloyd of Calcareous” Cabernet Sauvignon represents the fruition of our founder’s dream of producing world class Cab at the Calcareous Vineyard. Two blocks of Cabernet are planted at Calcareous both Clone 337 on 420A rootstock. The Lloyd is meant to embody the best of the vineyard from each vintage.
