Très Violet is our Estate’s take on a traditional Rhône-style red wine. By combining the depth and richness of Syrah, spice and leather from Mourvèdre, and the bright fruit elegance of Grenache, we can produce a multifaceted yet cohesive wine. In this way, the Très Violet is perhaps the fullest expression of our Estate.

 

Tasting Notes
The dark ruby color gives you the first hint of where this wine is going. The nose produces a bouquet of dark red fruits and honey. The upfront palate is very rich and full of Grenache strawberry and fig. The Mourvedre and Syrah really show in the mid palate, adding plum, tannin, and nutmeg. The finish shows off the cohesiveness that a blend can produce as the balanced flavors linger in the mouth.

Wine Story

Vineyard Notes
The 2007 Tres Violet comes from our Calcareous Estate vineyard. Planted in 2002, the 2007 harvest was our first real indication of the quality of fruit our Estate vineyard will produce. The intensely rocky limestone soils make for very difficult growing conditions. This struggle of the vines though has led them to produce wines of tremendous concentration as yields came in at about 2.5 tons per acre.
Winemaker Notes
The Tres Violet Rhone blend consists of Syrah 58%, Grenache 30%, and Mourvedre 12%. The Syrah was picked in two separate lots. The first pick coming in perfectly balanced while the second later pick was pushed for more developed tannins and fruit. This second pick was co-fermented with the Grenache whose higher acidity countered the ripeness in the Syrah making for a more cohesive wine. The Mourvedre, a late ripener on the Estate, was the last to be picked. All fruit was fermented in 2.5 ton open top stainless with three daily punch downs to aid in the extraction of skin components.

Other Notes
The 2007 vintage was an example of the type of weather that has made Paso Robles famous for Rhone Varietals. The warm, dry spring and summer gave Paso a very Mediterranean feel, which led to an almost perfect vintage for Rhone reds. The power and concentration of this wine is a direct result of the growing conditions of this very notable vintage for Paso Robles.
